Why the board of Sevilla has declined to go to the forthcoming match against Barcelona.

Those in positions of authority at La Liga team Sevilla will not be present at this weekend's matchup with Barcelona. Mundo Deportivo claims that this is the case, using the ongoing "Negreira case" as justification. As many will undoubtedly remember, Sevilla's board said in September that they would not be attending any of the events surrounding the team's La Liga away trip to Barcelona. The Nervionenses issued a statement outlining their reasons for declining the invitation to use an executive box at Montjuïc as well as the customary pre-match boardroom meal. As stated in the order circulated in the media, "complete indignation and rejection of the practices carried out by the former FC Barcelona leaders accused in the Negreira case, practices that supposedly constitute a crime for the Investigating Court number 1 of Barcelona." Furthermore, as previously said, the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán's leadership has not changed their position in the 12 mont

What should England expect from Thomas Tuchel?

Thomas Tuchel has been selected as the new head coach of the England national team, as the Three Lions prepare for a new era.

Given his track record of success in several European leagues, the FA views his hiring as a coup. England has acquired a serial winner to coach a highly skilled squad in a time when the top managers favor club football.

On January 1st, Tuchel will formally start working in preparation for 2026 World Cup qualification. Getting England over the finish line in a major tournament is the clear directive.

Tuchel's hiring as England's third foreign coach will undoubtedly divide opinions, but his qualifications—rather than his passport—are what matter most.

No English manager has won the Premier League, and England hasn't won a major tournament in 58 years and counting. In comparison, Germans have fared well on both fronts.

But, what will Tuchel bring to England?

A proven winner.

Few managers on the market can match Tuchel's collection of accolades, and his victories in various competitions provide motivation for the unique challenges of international football.

Tuchel has previously stepped into Jurgen Klopp's shoes at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, oversaw a star-studded and ego-filled dressing room at Paris Saint-Germain, and transformed a dysfunctional Chelsea into European champions in just six months.

His stock dropped as he oversaw Bayern Munich's first trophyless season since 2011/12 previous season, but Harry Kane's performances can provide hope. The England captain scored 44 goals in 45 games under Tuchel last season, on route to collecting the European Golden Shoe for the first time.

Tactical flexibility.

In the midst of Gareth Southgate's groan-inducing pragmatism and the Greek exposure of Lee Carsley's cavalier approach, Tuchel provides tactical flexibility that could be suitable for tournament football.

Tuchel's time at Chelsea saw him switch to a back three system, which suited his players and helped the Blues win the Champions League. Pep Guardiola found Tuchel particularly problematic during that time, as the Blues lost three straight games to the German, including the 2022 Champions League final. While many well-known managers offer an unwavering stance on their philosophy, Tuchel has proven to be results-driven and willing to adapt to win one-off games. At Borussia Dortmund, he operated with a lone forward who stayed in central areas while a cast of creatives rotated around behind. Given England's depth of attacking talent, this could be a tactical approach reimplemented.

A prickly personality.

Tuchel's tenure in management has been marked by confrontations with authority. Frosty relationships with the board have been obvious at some former teams, and the transition to international football will alleviate some of these issues.

With no disputes on transfers, Tuchel can focus on the work at hand in converting a tremendously talented roster into a tournament-winning one.

On the field and in the locker room, he will not be reluctant to tell his players when they have not met his expectations.

A change in principles

Tuchel's appointment has resulted in the FA abandoning their plan to develop a philosophy across all age groups. The German is for the present, referring to England's current tournament-winning status.

After close misses in the last two European Championships and a World Cup semi-final under Southgate, the FA have opted for a head coach who has guided teams to the biggest stages — and won.

🏅Mateta shines as France defeats Egypt, securing a gold medal clash with Spain.
