That has not yet been confirmed, but Mbappe informed PSG early this season that he wished to leave the club, opening the way for his move to Madrid, which has been inevitable in recent years.

The 25-year-old will not have a great farewell to his seven years at the club, as they were defeated by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals, and he has now revealed his impending exit, ahead of PSG's final home game of the season on Sunday against Toulouse.

Mbappe said in a video uploaded on his social media channels: "I've always said that I'd talk with you when the time comes, so I wanted to inform you all that this is my final year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend, and the experience will come to an end in a few of weeks.

"I'll play my final game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday." It's a lot of emotions, many years where I had the opportunity and great honor to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world, which allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player by playing alongside some of the best in history, to meet a lot of people, and to grow as a man with all the glory and mistakes I've made."

While Mbappe did not identify his future club in the video, he did explain why he decided to transfer abroad.

"It's hard, hard and I never thought it would be this difficult to leave my country, France, Ligue 1, a championship I have always known," he stated.

"But I think I needed this, a new challenge after seven years."

It marks an end to a long-running saga in which Mbappe appeared to be leaving PSG on many times before committing his future to the Ligue 1 club at the last minute.

Mbappe has 43 goals in all competitions this season and a club record 255 in total, and he talked directly to the supporters about his love for PSG.

"I haven't always lived up to the love you all gave me for seven years, but I never wanted to cheat," Mbappe stated.

"I've always wanted to be effective. PSG is a club that leaves no one indifferent. We can love or hate it; I chose to love it.

He concluded by saying: "Believe me that you will remain in my heart forever."
