Filipe Luís Leads Flamengo To A Historic Eighth Title In The 2025 Brasileirão.

Filipe Luís has just written one of the most spectacular first chapters any manager could dream of, guiding Flamengo to a historic eighth Brasileirão title in 2025 and completing a trophy‑laden year that has reshaped the club’s identity and his own reputation. With a 1–0 win over Ceará at a packed Maracanã, Flamengo not only ended a five‑year league drought but also confirmed themselves as the dominant force of this era in Brazilian football under a coach who retired as a player barely yesterday. A historic night at Maracanã The title‑clinching win over Ceará was not a chaotic finale but the calm, controlled performance of a team that knew exactly what was required. Flamengo stepped onto the Maracanã pitch with the equation simple: a victory would mathematically secure the 2025 Brasileirão, regardless of what chasing Palmeiras did elsewhere. Backed by a sea of red and black, Rubro‑Negro managed the game with maturity, dominating the ball, suffocating Ceará’s transitions, and finding ...

Ranking of the most disappointing players in Copa America 2024.

The most disappointing Copa America 2024 players did not contribute to their teams when it was most important, and others even (literally) failed to show up.

While James Rodriguez, Lautaro Martinez, and Fede Valverde continue to excel at Copa America 2024, other elite players were unable to score for their respective countries this summer, resulting in surprise group stage elimination and quarter-final upsets. In truth, a couple of the world's top (and finest) players delivered subpar performances that marred their otherwise brilliant 2023/24 seasons.

Here's a look at the five most unimpressive players representing their countries in Copa America 2024.

Copa America 2024's most disappointing players, ranked.

5. Enner Valencia (Ecuador)

Enner Valencia will reflect on his Copa America 2024 performance and consider what could have been. The striker was sent off in Ecuador's first group stage encounter against Venezuela, and he served a one-game suspension against Jamaica. Valencia was fortunate that his squad scored enough points to finish second in Group B and advance to the knockout rounds.

Although Ecuador's chances of defeating incumbent winners Argentina in the quarterfinals were poor, if Valencia had delivered, La Tri may have pulled off the tournament's biggest upset. The skipper missed a penalty in the 62nd minute, which would have brought his team level with La Albiceleste.

If Valencia had scored from the spot, Ecuador would have won the game 2-1. Instead, they lost in a penalty shootout.

4. Tim Weah (USA)

Although several USMNT players had dismal Copa America performances, Tim Weah made the most serious blunder of all. The winger was sent off in the 18th minute against Panama in the United States' second group stage match. Weah hit Roderick Miller in the back of the head, earning him a straight red and a two-game punishment.

The United States would go on to lose 2-1 to Panama, effectively ending their chances of moving to the knockout rounds. Gregg Berhalter's team then faced Uruguay in their final group stage encounter without Weah, and they were unable to score, ending their Copa America 2024 season on home soil before it had begun.

3. Santiago Gimenez (Mexico)

All eyes were on Santiago Gimenez for Mexico before of this summer's Copa América. The 23-year-old scored 26 goals for Feyenoord in all competitions during the 2023/24 season and won the CONCACAF Gold Cup final last year.

The striker started all three group stage games for Mexico but did not score a single goal or assist in 219 minutes. El Tri was expected to advance from Group B, however they managed to score only one goal throughout the competition. Gimenez's failure at the top led to Mexico's early elimination.

2. Rodrygo (Brazil)

Rodrygo is another player that failed to score in Copa America 2024. In four matches, the Real Madrid player had only two shots on goal and never looked particularly dangerous in the final third.

Rodrygo's lack of playmaking is inexcusable, especially given that he scored 16 goals for Los Blancos in all competitions this season and assisted eight times. It should be noted, however, that Dorival Junior began the 23-year-old as a striker in three of Brazil's four games, which is not Rodrygo's natural or favored position.

1.Vinicius Jr(Brazil)

Vinicius Jr. is without a doubt the most disappointing player in the Copa America 2024. The two-time Champions League winner entered the competition as the leader for the Ballon d'Or following a 24-goal season for Real Madrid, but he failed to perform when it counted for Brazil.

Vini Jr. netted a brace against Paraguay, but that was his sole success this summer. In the Selecao's other two group stage matches, the 23-year-old was almost inconspicuous and did not create many scoring chances.

To cap off his disappointing group stage performance, Vini Jr. received a one-game suspension for yellow card accumulation, and therefore missed Brazil's quarterfinal encounter against Uruguay. Dorival Junior's team went on to lose against La Celeste in a penalty shootout.
