How Thibaut Courtois' Injury Affects the Madrid Derby.

In elite football, there are moments when the absence of a single player reverberates far beyond the starting lineup, influencing tactics, psychology, and even the identity of a team. Few players embody such significance as Thibaut Courtois, whose presence between the posts has been a cornerstone of Real Madrid CF’s recent dominance. As the club prepares for two defining fixtures—the high-stakes Madrid Derby against Atlético Madrid and a blockbuster UEFA Champions League quarterfinal clash with FC Bayern Munich—Courtois’ injury casts a long and complex shadow over the tactical and emotional landscape of the team. This is not merely about replacing a goalkeeper; it is about recalibrating an entire system that has, for years, relied on one of the most complete shot-stoppers in modern football. The implications stretch from defensive structure to psychological confidence, from set-piece organization to the subtle art of game management. The Importance of Courtois: More Than Just a Goalkee...

Real Sociedad's president is aware of potential offers for Arsenal and Barcelona targets.

Real Sociedad President Jokin Aperribay said that star player Mikel Merino has already received offers to leave the club. The 27-year-old has one year left on his contract and is poised to quit the club amid interest from Barcelona, Arsenal, and Atletico Madrid. Merino's contract has not been renewed, and Aperribay confessed that this was a clear indication that he wanted to leave this summer. The Spain international's stock rose at Euro 2024, and Arsenal reconnected with his agency this week.

"I believe Mikel has been quite truthful with Real. He has received a renewal offer for a year, and if he has not renewed it, it is because he does not want to convince the Real fans that he is staying and then leaving, which I believe speaks good of him," Aperribay told the press, including Sport.

However, it appears that he is not yet interested in a move to Atletico Madrid, who attempted to sign him but Merino rejected their offer. However, if Real Sociedad is asked to negotiate with any party, they will do so. "I would like him not to leave; we all do, but if he tells us he accepts any of the offers on the table and wants us to negotiate, we will. We know he has them, and we know the specifics. However, we remain hopeful that Mikel Merino will remain at Real," Aperribay stated.

Merino has been linked with a move to the Premier League, but Football España claimed last week that the Basque midfielder will consider all options before making a final choice. How long he is willing to wait for Barcelona to make an offer could be the deciding factor, since they are currently concentrating on signing a star forward first.

Didier Deschamps plans to discuss France captaincy with Kylian Mbappé, as Ibrahima Konaté's popularity rises.

Will Kylian Mbappé (25) keep his position as France captain in 2025? It remains to be seen, given the Real Madrid striker's absences from the previous two international holidays with Les Bleus. According to L'Equipe, Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps will confront the former PSG forward about his desire to continue wearing the captain's armband. The manager, a former France captain, reportedly wants to know if Mbappé feels the captaincy is too much for him to bear, and if wearing the captain's armband affects his time with his France teammates. According to the source, Deschamps is aware of speculations that Mbappé has considering retiring as France's captain. If Mbappé expresses his desire to remain France captain, there is little reason to suppose Deschamps will relinquish him of his captaincy duties. However, if Mbappé expresses his desire to resign his position, Deschamps will select another captain. Mbappé's successor is projected to be one of Aurélien Tcho...
