The Ballon d'Or organizers reveal the razor-thin margin by which Rodri defeated Vinicius Jr. in voting.

Rodri won the 2024 men's Ballon d'Or by just 41 points over Vinicius Jr, according to the coveted yearly prize's organizers.

The Manchester City and Spain midfielder defeated the Brazilian forward for the individual prize, causing Vinicius Jr and Real Madrid to skip the presentation in Paris.

According to L'Equipe, Rodri has 1170 points to Vinicius' 1129, ahead of the full publication of voting results by organizers France Football.

Each of the 99 judges for the men's award named a top ten for the Ballon d'Or, with each first-place vote worth 15 points, followed by 12, 10, eight, seven, five, four, three, two, and one point for the tenth-place spot.

Five jurors did not vote for Rodri, while three voted against Vinicius. Ademola Lookman, who helped Atalanta win the Europa League, received an unexpected first-place vote, but Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Lautaro Martinez also topped lists, as did a number of Real Madrid players.

The Spanish team did not attend the ceremony following a successful season in which they won both La Liga and the Champions League. While Vinicius was widely favored for the prize, Real Madrid was also upset that Rodri was chosen over international colleague Dani Carvajal following the pair's roles in Spain's Euro 2024 victory.

"If the award criteria doesn't give it to Vinícius as the winner, then those same criteria should point to Carvajal as the winner," according to a statement from Madrid. "Because this was not the case, it is apparent that Ballon d'Or-UEFA does not value Real Madrid. And Real Madrid will not go where it is not recognized.

Thierry Henry was denied a joyful homecoming as France was defeated by gold medal winners Spain.

Exactly 36 years after Vinnie Jones, Dave Beasant, Lawrie Sanchez, and others ripped up the rulebook to propel Bobby Gould's Wimbledon to a storied FA Cup victory, Thierry Henry's France fell agonisingly short of capturing an emotional Olympic gold medal in front of a sold-out Parc des Princes in Paris. Henry, who gave his young French team the nickname the 'Crazy Ones' due to their fun-loving nature, won nearly everything as a player, and despite the stars appearing to align for a historic gold medal on home turf, the Arsenal legend was overshadowed by Santi Denia's slick Spaniards in a dramatic 5-3 extra-time defeat. Sergio Camello of Rayo Vallecano was their unexpected late nemesis, dunking French goalkeeper Guillaume Restes with 100 minutes on the clock to startle a stunned capacity crowd. And he delivered a virtual carbon copy of that finish with the game's final kick, charging in on goal as the French flung bodies forward to slot past Restes and cruelly
