The FA Cup ticket dispute may result in empty seats for Arsenal's match against Manchester United.


Due to a dispute over United's ticket allocation, the FA Cup meeting could have 1,000 empty seats.

Arsenal and Manchester United's disagreement over ticket distribution for Sunday's FA Cup match at Emirates Stadium may result in 1,000 seats being empty.

Under FA Cup rules, United is entitled to an allocation of up to 15%, or 9,000 tickets, for their away fans.

The club has got 7,956 tickets for the third round tie, including 78 wheelchair pairs, for a total allocation of more over 13%.

United did not receive their entire 9,000 allocation due to safety concerns, with some of the seats in question located in the Emirates Stadium's upper tier.

Persistent standing is not permitted in the upper tier of Emirates Stadium for safety reasons, thus away fans cannot be accommodated there.


Because of Emirates Stadium's infrastructure, 9,000 away supporters are unable to sit in the lower tier, leaving the remaining 1,000 seats unfilled.

The Safety Advisory Group, which includes representatives from the emergency services and the police, is involved in such conversations to ensure the safety of both groups of supporters.

A recommended approach to ensure that the tickets are used is to distribute them to neutrals, such as people involved in community or grassroots programs, but no consensus has yet been reached.

This means that approximately 1,000 seats could be left unfilled on Sunday.

United fans will fill much of the lower deck behind one of the goals, with some Arsenal fans relocating from their customary places to accommodate the increased number of away supporters.

Arsenal enters the game hoping to rebound from their 2-0 loss to Newcastle in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday.
