Davies' agent criticizes Canada and claims the ACL damage was 'preventable'.


Alphonso Davies' agent has criticised Canada's management of the defender following his ACL injury against the United States.

Davies is expected to be out for at least six months after being forced off in the 12th minute of Canada's 2-1 victory over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League third-place playoff on Sunday. The left-back will miss the remainder of the season as Bayern compete for the Bundesliga and the Champions League.

The 24-year-old's agent, Nedal Huoseh, has now spoken out against Canada, claiming Davies should not have played in the game. He stated that Davies informed the Canadian management of his injury but was still played.

"He should not have played in the third-place friendly match against the United States. I was startled he started because he had stated that he was not ready to begin," he told German journalist Phillip Kessler.

"A source within CSA (Canada FA) told me Friday night that Alphonso would not start but could play a few minutes. I informed them that he should not play at all.


Regarding Canada coach Jesse Marsch, he added: "In my opinion, he should have handled the issue better; this could have been completely avoidable. Prior to moving to Canada, Jesse coached professionally at the top level and should be well aware of the dangers of taking risks with players who tell you they cannot play.

"The national team should not make emotional decisions based on individual performance. I understand it was a match against the USA, and there was a lot of motivation to win, but the players' health should come first.

"National teams must do a better job protecting these guys. I'm confident he'll recover from this setback with the help of Bayern's medical experts.
