Alessia Russo will miss England's Nations League away game against Belgium.

Alessia Russo has been ruled out of England's Nations League match against Belgium in Leuven on Tuesday due to injury. Russo played 73 minutes in Friday night's 5-0 victory over the same opponents at Ashton Gate before being replaced due to a knock. The Football Association confirmed that Russo had returned to Arsenal for further evaluation. The 26-year-old attacker failed to score against Belgium, hitting the post twice. Michelle Agyemang, an England U19s standout who is presently on loan at Brighton from Arsenal, has been called up as a replacement in her professional debut. England has seven points from a possible nine in Nations League Group A3 ahead of their return match against Belgium on Tuesday.

Sandro Tonali's "big moment" during Newcastle's victory over Brentford is praised by Eddie Howe.

After Sandro Tonali finished a strong performance with a spectacular winner to put Newcastle in the running for Champions League qualifying, Eddie Howe praised his shooting ability.

The 24-year-old Italy international gave the Magpies a valuable 2-1 victory over Brentford at home in the 74th minute with a piledriver that beat goalkeeper Mark Flekken from an unlikely angle, capping an event-filled match.

When asked about the goal later, Howe responded, "Let me say one thing about Sandro: he can hit a ball like no-one." Bees manager Thomas Frank later called Tonali's winning goal a "one in a million cross." I wouldn't rule out him meaning that since he can hit it so powerfully that I occasionally worry for our goalkeepers' wrists when he does.

We needed it, therefore it was a significant point in the match. It's a significant point in our season since the game was still very much in the balance at that point.

However, Tonali acknowledged that his decisive stroke had a degree of luck.

"I will be honest with you, it was a good shot, but it was 70 percent cross," he added. The speed was just right. Due to the keeper's absence from the goal, I was rather fortunate.

The Carabao Cup champions are still in the running for Champions League spots after a victory that moved them up to fifth place, where Chelsea might take their place on Thursday night.

The Sweden international turned in Jacob Murphy's cross past Flekken from an offside position, giving them the lead seconds after Harvey Barnes had headed home at the end of an incredible Alexander Isak run. It was a thrilling match.

Ethan Pinnock headed against a post as the visitors pressed, but Tonali's spectacular goal caught them off guard. Bryan Mbeumo's calm second-half penalty brought the score back to even.

"I was really hoping the players would be professional, but Wembley behind them and move forward and work, and we did – and we had to work," Howe added, admitting he wasn't sure how his team would react in the first game back since their big day at Wembley.

"I believe it was a huge victory for our season. Everyone deserves praise because that game wasn't simple.

As his team lost a number of crucial moments, including a late demand for a second penalty for Bruno Guimaraes' challenge on substitute Mikkel Damsgaard that went unanswered, Frank was left wondering what might have been.

"You need some of the margins to go your way if you want to win a game like this, just like any other game, but to win a tight game against a good team," he stated.

Bryan [Mbeumo], the first goal, makes a mistake. He kicks the ball away in front of Isak if he doesn't stumble; Ethan puts it inside the post; Tonali puts a one-in-a-million cross in the net; and, in my opinion, Damsgaard gets the penalty.

"I'm really happy with the performance, but regrettably, we were on the wrong end of that."

Thierry Henry was denied a joyful homecoming as France was defeated by gold medal winners Spain.

Exactly 36 years after Vinnie Jones, Dave Beasant, Lawrie Sanchez, and others ripped up the rulebook to propel Bobby Gould's Wimbledon to a storied FA Cup victory, Thierry Henry's France fell agonisingly short of capturing an emotional Olympic gold medal in front of a sold-out Parc des Princes in Paris. Henry, who gave his young French team the nickname the 'Crazy Ones' due to their fun-loving nature, won nearly everything as a player, and despite the stars appearing to align for a historic gold medal on home turf, the Arsenal legend was overshadowed by Santi Denia's slick Spaniards in a dramatic 5-3 extra-time defeat. Sergio Camello of Rayo Vallecano was their unexpected late nemesis, dunking French goalkeeper Guillaume Restes with 100 minutes on the clock to startle a stunned capacity crowd. And he delivered a virtual carbon copy of that finish with the game's final kick, charging in on goal as the French flung bodies forward to slot past Restes and cruelly ...
