Andre Onana’s dire performance leaves Man Utd’s Europa League quarter-final on a knife edge .

If there was some evidence to back up Andre Onana's claim that Manchester United are "way better" than Lyon, Nemanja Matic's accusation was strengthened. The goalkeeper dubbed one of the worst in United's modern history had one of his worst nights in their jersey, with a pair of errors adding to Matic's case. Arguably, United outperformed Lyon, but the scoreboard did not reflect this, as a semi-final spot remained on the line. That was due to Onana's errors, which allowed Lyon to equalise in the 95th minute when he pushed Georges Mikautadze's shot right back out. Rayan Cherki followed up and tapped in. "The worst moment to concede a goal," stated Leny Yoro. There was no attempt to sugarcoat the situation; nor could there be. Ruben Amorim of Onana commented, "There is nothing I can say now to help him," but he did provide an endorsement. "I am really confident in Andre." Amorim felt that the tie is "50-50,...

Sarina Wiegman using Belgium double-header to help shape her team for Euro 2025.

Sarina Wiegman, England's manager, reveals she is using the Nations League double-header against Belgium to prepare her players for the 2017 European Women's Championship.

The Lionesses drew with Portugal before defeating Spain during the previous international break in February, but now face the uncommon prospect of meeting the same team twice in a matter of days.

England will host Belgium in Bristol on Friday night before traveling to Leuven on April 8, and Wiegman has revealed that she will also be watching the Euros in Switzerland in July.

She stated, "I think it's crucial that we establish a positive image of our team.

"Of course, we're going to play Belgium twice and hope to win both games, but we're also getting the team ready for the Euros by knowing who's available and who's in good shape.

"So you're constantly thinking in that direction. These two camps have been extremely fierce and entertaining to watch, but the level has risen again.

"We often discuss linkages and consistency. Now we're preparing for our next opponent, Belgium; the challenge will be different from what Portugal and Spain have faced, so I'm looking forward to it.

Alessia Russo, an England striker, has come into form at the perfect time and helped Arsenal move to the Champions League semi-finals by scoring twice against Real Madrid to help turn the tie around after a 2-0 first-leg deficit.

Leah Williamson also contributed to the triumph, and she praised her club and country teammates.

"Everyone would always say how nice of a person Alessia is and how good a person she is, and everybody wants her to succeed for that reason," the England captain went on to explain.

"But to be a number nine in any team, you have to have that sort of, not arrogance, but confidence about yourself, and we all want to see her play like she does, so she carries it because she deserves it as a human being and works hard for it.

"We know what a talent she is and when she's scoring goals I know how good that is for her."

On Thursday morning, FIFA president Gianni Infantino recognized the United Kingdom's ambition as the "one valid bid" for hosting the 2035 Women's World Cup.

The football associations of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales declared that they would submit a joint expression of interest in hosting the finals in ten years, and despite interest from Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, Infantino admitted that the United Kingdom is the only one under consideration.

"It's great news. "It would be fantastic if that tournament were held here," Wiegman said.

"With the experience of the Euros, we know how large the game is already and how much momentum it has in this country.

"Another tournament on an even bigger stage would be incredible and give another boost to the game."

Thierry Henry was denied a joyful homecoming as France was defeated by gold medal winners Spain.

Exactly 36 years after Vinnie Jones, Dave Beasant, Lawrie Sanchez, and others ripped up the rulebook to propel Bobby Gould's Wimbledon to a storied FA Cup victory, Thierry Henry's France fell agonisingly short of capturing an emotional Olympic gold medal in front of a sold-out Parc des Princes in Paris. Henry, who gave his young French team the nickname the 'Crazy Ones' due to their fun-loving nature, won nearly everything as a player, and despite the stars appearing to align for a historic gold medal on home turf, the Arsenal legend was overshadowed by Santi Denia's slick Spaniards in a dramatic 5-3 extra-time defeat. Sergio Camello of Rayo Vallecano was their unexpected late nemesis, dunking French goalkeeper Guillaume Restes with 100 minutes on the clock to startle a stunned capacity crowd. And he delivered a virtual carbon copy of that finish with the game's final kick, charging in on goal as the French flung bodies forward to slot past Restes and cruelly ...
