The most intriguing Euro 2024 quarter-final ties are listed.

It seems like only a few days ago when fans around the continent sat down to watch Germany thrash Scotland in the opening match, but the quarter-final stage of Euro 2024 is already just around the corner.

This summer's tournament has delivered amazing moments and some significant scalps, but none of the competition's minnows have made it to the last eight. Instead, Europe's major boys have all advanced, with the exception of incumbent champions Italy, who were eliminated in the final 16.

Not all of the continent's titans have realized their full potential in Germany, but if they want to raise the Henri Delaunay Cup on July 14, they must rediscover their mojo soon.

Here are the four quarter-final ties of Euro 2024, evaluated by how entertaining they will be to watch.

4. England vs Switzerland

England is the least exciting team to watch at Euro 2024. Gareth Southgate's side has been very poor, especially considering the talent available. There has been little to suggest that the Three Lions will turn a turnaround during the quarter-finals, after coming within seconds of being eliminated by Slovakia in the last 16. Switzerland, their opponents in the final eight, have been surprisingly impressive. They have yet to lose a game and recently defeated reigning champions Italy. They have proved that they can play entertaining football while also being pragmatic. However, even a Switzerland team that has scored seven goals in four matches may not be able to bring out the best in an England team depleted of confidence and any discernible plan.If this is going to be thrilling, another Jude Bellingham overhead kick may be necessary.

3. Portugal vs France

Fans would have salivated before the event if they had known these two powerhouses would meet in the quarterfinals. What's not to love about a rematch of the Euro 2016 final between Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe?Well, after seeing both teams at Euro 2024, interest levels are unlikely to approach the levels required for a draw of this scale. Despite being pre-tournament favourites, France has been one of the least attractive teams to watch in Germany, with only one of their four matches resulting in more than one goal.Les Bleus have only scored three goals - two own goals and one penalty - and have been exceedingly tenacious at the opposite end of the pitch.

If they get in front, they are more than willing to absorb the strain.Portugal has been uninspiring, with the exception of a crushing victory over an error-prone Turkey on Matchday 2. Ronaldo has been completely ineffective, and even Rafael Leao and Bruno Fernandes have failed to impress. Unfortunately, this one reads 1-0.

2. Netherlands vs Turkey

The Netherlands saved their strongest performance of the competition until the last 16. Despite a rough start, they easily defeated Romania 3-0, with Cody Gakpo once again the star of the show. They played some fantastic football in their first knockout match, with 23 shots on target, six great chances, and a projected goal total of 2.93.Even in the group stage, they were entertaining to watch - for better or worse. Aside from a goalless draw with France, in which they provided a larger attacking threat than Les Bleus, they played exciting encounters against Poland and Austria. Their defensive flaws make for interesting viewing.Turkey has been one of the most fascinating teams in Euro 2024.

They generated late drama in group stage wins over Georgia and Czechia, then impressed in the last round with a 2-1 victory over Austria.Merih Demiral scored after less than a minute in the last 16, and goalkeeper Mert Gunok made an incredible save in the dying seconds to assist Vincenzo Montella's team win.

1. Spain vs Germany

Unfortunately, one of Euro 2024's two top teams will leave in the quarterfinals. Fortunately, spectators can see the two compete for a spot in the semi-finals.Both Spain and hosts Germany have performed admirably at this summer's competition, appearing to be the most balanced teams in the field. Going forward, they've been outstanding, with their young wonderkids making them proud in the final third.

They are the two nations with the greatest average goals per match (2.5 for Germany and 2.3 for Spain), as well as the highest predicted goals tally and shots on target per 90 at Euro 2024 so far.Hopefully, they won't adjust their strategies too much for Friday's quarterfinal, even if they play a little more defensively. Regardless, it should be an awesome blast.

Can PSG Achieve a Historic UCL Hat-Trick with Their New Star-Studded Attack?

Paris Saint-Germain have entered a new phase of European dominance after winning the Champions League in consecutive seasons, and their latest attacking additions suggest that the club are not satisfied with stopping at two. The arrivals of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, Ferran Torres from Barcelona and Mika Godts from Ajax have added more depth, creativity and tactical variety to an attack that already includes Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The question is no longer whether PSG have enough talent to win the Champions League. It is whether they can maintain the focus, balance and hunger required to win it three times in a row. A historic hat-trick would be one of the rarest achievements in modern European football. Winning one Champions League title demands quality, resilience and good fortune. Winning two consecutively proves that the club has developed a genuine competitive structure. Winning three would require PSG to survive every type of challenge: injuri...

Why Cristian Romero Will Thrive at Atlético Madrid After Struggles at Tottenham.

Cristian Romero’s move from Tottenham to Atlético Madrid could be the perfect reset for a defender whose qualities were often misunderstood in England. Tottenham have agreed a deal worth around €40 million, or approximately £34 million, with a 15% sell-on clause, bringing an end to Romero’s five-year stay in north London. The transfer follows a difficult 2025–26 campaign in which the Argentine defender served four separate suspensions and admitted he was not enjoying the best period of his Tottenham career. At Atlético, however, Romero is moving into an environment that may suit his personality and playing style far better. Diego Simeone understands defenders who play with aggression, courage and emotional intensity. He also knows how to turn a confrontational centre-back into a leader within a disciplined defensive structure. Romero will not be asked to become less competitive. He will be asked to make that competitiveness more controlled and more useful. That could be the key to his ...

Rodri: The Missing Piece in Barcelona's Midfield Puzzle Post-Busquets Era.

Barcelona’s reported pursuit of Rodri is about far more than signing another elite midfielder. It is about repairing a structural weakness that has remained visible since Sergio Busquets moved on from the club. Rodri has long been viewed as a natural successor to Busquets because of his intelligence, positioning and ability to control matches from the deepest midfield role, but his development has taken him beyond the traditional No. 6 profile. He is now a complete midfielder who can defend, dictate tempo, carry the ball, score goals and organise a team under pressure. That evolution is precisely why he could be so valuable to Barcelona. The club do not simply need someone who passes safely between the centre-backs. They need a player who can protect the defence, give creative midfielders freedom, manage transitions and provide control when matches become chaotic. Since Busquets’ departure, Barcelona have produced talented midfielders but have struggled to find one player capable of gi...

Why Borussia Dortmund Targeted Giannis Konstantelias for Their Midfield Rebuild.

Borussia Dortmund’s signing of Giannis Konstantelias is a clear example of the club returning to one of its most successful recruitment principles: identify a technically gifted player before the wider European market fully understands his value, then place him in an environment where he can develop into a major star. The 23-year-old Greek has joined from PAOK on a long-term contract running until 2031, with the transfer package reported at around €26 million plus bonuses that could take the total beyond €30 million. Although Konstantelias is often described as an attacking midfielder or winger, his arrival is connected to Dortmund’s broader midfield rebuild. The club are not signing him only to add another forward. They are trying to restore creativity, unpredictability and technical quality after changes in the attacking group, including Karim Adeyemi’s move to Barcelona. Konstantelias gives Dortmund a player who can operate between midfield and attack, connect possession and create ...
