Xabi Alonso considers Real Madrid's performance in spite of their loss to Manchester City.

Real Madrid fell 2-1 to Manchester City in a tense Champions League clash at the Bernabéu, but Xabi Alonso praised his squad's relentless effort. Rodrygo's early strike gave Los Blancos hope, only for City's quickfire goals from a corner and penalty to flip the script in ten crucial minutes. Alonso's post-match words highlighted performance over the scoreline, signaling resilience amid mounting pressures. The Match Unfolds: A Tale of Two Halves Real Madrid burst out of the blocks, capitalizing on home advantage with Rodrygo's opener that set an aggressive tone against a City side known for their clinical finishing. Alonso noted the team's positive start and chance creation, but lamented defensive lapses during a pivotal ten-minute spell where City scored twice from set-pieces—a corner converted ruthlessly and a penalty dispatched with precision. Despite the reversal, Madrid pushed forward, generating opportunities but lacking the killer edge in front of goal, f...

After a hamstring injury, Vinicius Junior expresses frustration with the football schedule.

Vinicius Junior, a Real Madrid winger, hasn't been hesitant about pointing the finger at who he believes is to blame for a hamstring injury that will keep him out for the rest of 2024.

Vinicius played 90 minutes of Madrid's La Liga victory over Leganes on Sunday evening. However, Carlo Ancelotti chose to play him centrally in a swap with Kylian Mbappe, as he was already exhausted after traveling to and from South America during the international break.

Vinicius sustained a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Monday. Although no official recuperation timeline was provided, Spanish reports promptly estimated his absence at one month. That means he is unlikely to return before the winter break over the Christmas season.

Vinicius used X, formerly Twitter, to express his thoughts on Madrid's upcoming absence.

"The crazy calendar," he explained, adding, "TO RECOVER!"

Elite players have increasingly expressed worries about packed fixture schedules, the quantity of games played, and travel commitments in terms of fitness and wellbeing.

Rodri had commented about the enormous physical expectations placed on top athletes just a few days before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury that would sideline him indefinitely. The Spanish midfielder arrived on crutches at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in October, but he expects to be back in time for the newly designed 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which extends the club season into mid-July.

Dani Carvajal, Madrid's vice captain, sustained his own ACL injury shortly afterwards. Eder Militao treated people cruelly for the second time in less than a year. David Alaba is still healing from a similar injury that occurred little over 11 months ago.

This season, the Champions League was enlarged to include two more games in the new 'league phase', which replaced the traditional group stage. An extra two-legged knockout round has been added for clubs finishing ninth to 24th in the rankings.

Madrid will also fly to Qatar next month to compete in the final of the new FIFA Intercontinental Cup, a mini-tournament that has replaced the now-defunct December Club World Cup. However, Vinicius will miss the game because he has been ruled out.
