Ruud van Nistelrooy did not have to wait long for his first official Premier League job.
Leicester City have formally appointed the former Dutch international as their new manager.
The 48-year-old recently received high accolades for acting as Manchester United's temporary manager following the dismissal of compatriot Erik ten Hag.He had an undefeated record at United (3-1-0) during his brief time on the Old Trafford bench, and the Foxes may have discovered a potential diamond in the making who might help them right the ship quickly.
Van Nistelrooy previously managed Jong PSV, but stepped down due to a lack of support at the Philips Stadion. He now heads to King Power Stadium to face a fresh challenge.
"I have to tell, when the interest arose, the first person I phoned was Enzo. He was very optimistic about it. He thoroughly enjoyed his time. When you hear stuff like this, you want to join the club. I called him and asked extensive questions about the Club, including its structures, staff, squad, stadium, fans, town, and environs. We had a great talk. It's always a pleasure to converse with him.
"The way Leicester City played under Maresca, winning the Championship and advancing to the Premier League, I see that line continuing in those structures and the concept of playing. I can connect to that. I can relate to those frameworks and ways of playing.
"It is my pleasure to welcome Ruud to Leicester City," said Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, adding, "Ruud's experience, knowledge, and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our Club."
The new man weighed in as well, saying, "I'm proud and excited. Every person I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic.
"They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the Club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the Club is impressive."
Leicester are just one point above the bottom three and have one of the poorest defensive records in England's top division. He will take up his new role for the first time on Tuesday evening against West Ham at the KP Stadium.
