The unusual occurrence occurred during a friendly match between Ajax and the Bundesliga team ahead of both clubs' return to play following the winter break.

Klaassen committed a brutal foul near the hour mark and received a red card, but after discussing the issue, coaches Francesco Farioli and Sebastian Hoeneß agreed to restart the game with 11 against 11.

Their explanation was that they both desired match practice with full squads on both sides and that playing with one man down would be detrimental to either team.
