With important Nations League matches and World Cup qualifying matches, the first international break of the year is upon us.
There are many new players in teams all across the world, and we've selected six players who might make their debuts for their countries this month.Doue Desire (France)
Desire Doue received his first call-up to France this month as a member of a thrilling Paris Saint-Germain team that is starting to look like a Champions League contender. The 19-year-old has seven goals and 11 assists in all competitions, averaging a goal involvement every 115 minutes, despite not being a guaranteed starter.
He maintained his composure as PSG defeated Liverpool in the Champions League last week thanks to the game-winning penalty kick.
He was acquired from Rennes last summer for €50 million (£42 million), and his arrival aligns with PSG's shift to a longer-term ambition. Doue will look to make an impact when Didier Deschamps' team plays Croatia in the Nations League quarterfinals this month after making an impression for France at the juvenile level and during the Olympics last year.
Quenda Geovanny (Portugal)
After the 17-year-old agreed to a high-profile transfer and gained recognition for Portugal, Geovanny Quenda is celebrating a wonderful week.Quenda will stay on loan at Sporting Lisbon until 2026, although he has agreed to sign a £40 million contract to join Chelsea. In the Portuguese capital, where he made 33 appearances for the U23s last season and contributed 20 goals before making his senior debut in 2024–2025, the adolescent will continue to grow.
He surpassed Simao Sabrosa and Cristiano Ronaldo, among others, to become Sporting's youngest goal scorer in August. Despite their 23-year age difference, he will now join the latter for the national team.
Spanish-born Dean Huijsen
This week, Bournemouth center-back Dean Huijsen was called up for the first time to the Spain squad.Since joining the Premier League from Juventus last summer, the highly regarded teenager has performed admirably. Bournemouth is now in the running for Europe because to Huijsen's impressive performances. In 2024–2025, the defender ranked in the top three percent of Premier League center-backs in terms of interceptions, clearances, and crucial passes per ninety minutes.
Born in Amsterdam, Huijsen played for the Netherlands until he was a u-19 player before deciding to go to Spain in 2024. In their next Nations League quarterfinal, he might now make his senior debut against his country of birth.
England's Dan Burn
"I've experienced worse weeks. Dan Burn stated on Sunday, "I don't want to go to sleep because I feel like I'm dreaming and it's all going to be a lie."The Newcastle defender has had a difficult week. Burn, who was recently unexpectedly included in Thomas Tuchel's first England team, scored the first goal as the Magpies won the Carabao Cup, ending a 70-year domestic trophy drought. After starting his career at fourth-tier Darlington, it had previously appeared unattainable, but for the boyhood fan from Blyth, it was a dream come true.
The 32-year-old may become England's oldest debutant since 2010 after receiving praise for his reliable performances at St. James' Park.
Brazil's Murillo
In November 2024, Murillo was called up to the Brazil national team for the first time, although he did not play in the World Cup qualifications against Uruguay and Venezuela. After a stellar season with high-flying Nottingham Forest, he returns to the Selecao squad this month. The 22-year-old, who played with Nikola Milenkovic at the City Ground, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after young center-backs in Europe.
Forest was rewarded by taking a chance on a player who made just 27 senior games in 2023. He is currently a member of a team aiming for an unexpected Champions League qualifying after winning Nottingham Forest Player of the Season the previous season. His quick ascent would be capped off by a debut in Brazil this month.
Echeverri Claudio (Argentina)
Manchester City signed Claudio Echeverri in January after the Argentine youngster's contract was finalized a year earlier. Although we haven't seen the teenager wearing a City shirt yet, Argentina has seen enough to add Echeverri to their roster for the World Cup qualifying matches this month.
The 19-year-old scored six goals in nine games while leading Argentina to a runners-up position at the Under-20 South American Championship.
