Gooners want the best for Miedema, but she should not join Manchester City Women.

Vivianne Miedema will depart Arsenal Women on June 30th, following seven amazing years. Some have agreed it was time she left (mostly due to her recent injury history), while others believe she still has many years to play at the highest level and should have stayed. The debate about whether she should have stayed or not is now meaningless because she is leaving.

For most Gooners, the most exciting aspect of Miedema's departure is the club she will join. Miedema indicated that she will choose where she lives while on vacation. Rumors have circulated about the Dutch goal-scoring machine's next destination since she announced her departure from Arsenal.

According to reports, Manchester City is leading the chase to get Miedema, while Arsenal's WSL rivals are considered favorites. Bayern Munich, her former club, is also thought to be interested in recruiting Miedema, though no formal attempts have been made to sign her.

As much as we want Miedema to succeed, she should not come to Manchester City. Even if the transfer is good for Viv, she might improve her WSL all-time top goalscorer record (80 goals), and she may contemplate staying in the UK owing to her bond with Arsenal teammate Beth Mead.

What if she goes on to become a hit in Manchester? Will she still be popular among Gooners?

After several fantastic years at Arsenal, shouldn't Miedema simply retire from the WSL? However, if she joins Manchester City, let us hope Mariona Caldentey is as successful as she was at Barcelona last season (39 games, 12 goals, 12 assists) and proves to be an upgrade over her.

Personally, I believe Barcelona will compete with Manchester City for Miedema's services. She already told Barcelona NO, but would it be a YES this time?
