Bayern re-establish their four-point lead with a win over Gladbach.


Bayern Munich has made another step toward returning to the top of the Bundesliga table at the end of the season with a 1-0 victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

After finishing the Hinrunde with a 2-1 loss to Mainz in December, Vincent Kompany's team was essentially back to their dominant best against a Gladbach side that provided little opposition at Borussia-Park.

The lone goal of the match came from none other than England's Harry Kane, who once again remained composed under pressure as he converted his effort from the spot in the 68th minute, his 26th consecutive penalty.

It was Kane's 15th goal in 14 Bundesliga games this season, and the 31-year-old continues to be a key player in Bavaria.

If there is any criticism of Bayern on the night, it must be for their inability to completely put Gladbach away with a more comfortable score-line.

Bayern can consider themselves fortunate that Gerardo Seoane's team was unable to steal a point that would otherwise have been completely undeserved, given that they dominated possession (68%) and created nearly four times the chances of Gladbach, as well as five significant chances on the night.

Bayern will now welcome relegation-threatened Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, with the opportunity to expand their lead at the top, while Bayer Leverkusen has a difficult test against Mainz at BayArena.
