The Southampton manager is furious at the contentious Liverpool penalty call.

Ivan Juric, manager of Southampton, feels Liverpool should have been given a penalty in the second half of their 3-1 loss at Anfield on Saturday. Will Smallbone gave the Saints an unexpected lead in stoppage time of the first half, but Darin Nunez quickly erased the lead. Mo Salah scored two penalty penalties in the second half to give Liverpool the victory, but Juric thought the first one was unfair. There didn't appear to be much in the area as Smallbone and Nunez collided, but referee Lewis Smith gave the penalty. Juric, the Southampton manager, is furious at Liverpool's penalty call. "They responded quite well," Juric said to BBC Sport. "We had some excellent first-half situations. The match was altered, in my opinion, by the [first] penalty, which was not a penalty. I'm happy with the way we performed today. "This can never be a punishment. Since it was 1-1 and somewhat altered the outcome, I apologize for what happened. Many of our yo...

Five Premier League teams need to make a signing by the deadline.

With only a week left in the January transfer window, clubs are trying to obtain new signings before the deadline.

Who might be the busiest clubs as the deadline approaches? We looked at five Premier League clubs that sorely need new players before the window closes.

Arsenal – Forward

Arsenal's refusal to sign a forward in the summer has been used as a stick to beat them with after each disappointing performance this season. The Gunners have remained a powerful set-piece threat and a solid defensive unit, but the absence of a standout goalscorer has been noticeable.

Mikel Arteta has kept Kai Havertz as his central forward, despite the fact that Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka's injuries have decreased his team's remaining goal threat.

Six teams, including Brentford and Fulham, have scored more open-play goals than Arsenal, indicating a lack of inventiveness and ruthless touch. Arsenal have little room for error in the latter stages of the season, trailing leaders Liverpool by six points.

While a recognized number nine may have to wait until the summer, Arsenal has been connected with Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha. This season, the Brazilian has ten league goals and the second-highest xG overperformance in the Premier League, trailing only Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. He is versatile and impressive in a failing side, and he has the potential to boost the Gunners.

Aston Villa - Centre back

Unai Emery has revealed that Aston Villa would seek to sign a centre-back before Monday's deadline. Villa are looking to add a defender to their weakened squad after signing Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia. The sale of Diego Carlos, as well as injuries to Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings, have left Emery's team short in the center.

Juan Foyth, who Emery knows well from his time at Villarreal, has been connected, and personal terms have been reached with Chelsea's Axel Disasi.

Everton – Forward

Everton manager David Moyes has stated that the club is working hard behind the scenes to make new signings this month. After just returning to the club, Moyes is looking for a left-back, midfielder, and forward in the next days.

Everton has struggled to find the net this season, scoring only 19 goals. Only bottom-of-the-table Southampton has less goals. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto struggling for form and Armando Broja's loan deal about to be cut short due to injury, Everton are expected to enter the market in search of a goal threat.

The Merseyside's are one of the clubs interested in loaning Ajax striker Brian Brobbey. The 22-year-old scored 22 goals last season but has struggled to find form this time around.

Tottenham Hotspur - Centre back

Ange Postecoglou's plea for reinforcements has not been fulfilled, with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky the only addition to Spurs this month. The club's injury problems have contributed to a terrible run of play, which culminated in a 2-1 defeat to struggling Leicester at the weekend.

Tottenham have battled with a patched-up defence, with teenage midfielder Archie Gray filling in for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven at centre-back. The North Londoners are lacking in various areas, but the heart of the defence has been exposed in recent weeks.

West Ham - Striker

Can West Ham finally sign the perfect striker? The club's inability to find a consistent number nine has been well chronicled, with big-money recruits such as Sebastien Haller and Gianluca Scamacca failing to meet expectations.

Graham Potter's new team is lacking in the final third because Jarrod Bowen, Niclas Fullkrug, and Michail Antonio are now out injured. Lucas Paqueta has played as an auxiliary forward, but the Hammers are looking for a more established alternative.

Andre Silva, RB Leipzig's striker, has been mentioned as a potential target.

Thierry Henry was denied a joyful homecoming as France was defeated by gold medal winners Spain.

Exactly 36 years after Vinnie Jones, Dave Beasant, Lawrie Sanchez, and others ripped up the rulebook to propel Bobby Gould's Wimbledon to a storied FA Cup victory, Thierry Henry's France fell agonisingly short of capturing an emotional Olympic gold medal in front of a sold-out Parc des Princes in Paris. Henry, who gave his young French team the nickname the 'Crazy Ones' due to their fun-loving nature, won nearly everything as a player, and despite the stars appearing to align for a historic gold medal on home turf, the Arsenal legend was overshadowed by Santi Denia's slick Spaniards in a dramatic 5-3 extra-time defeat. Sergio Camello of Rayo Vallecano was their unexpected late nemesis, dunking French goalkeeper Guillaume Restes with 100 minutes on the clock to startle a stunned capacity crowd. And he delivered a virtual carbon copy of that finish with the game's final kick, charging in on goal as the French flung bodies forward to slot past Restes and cruelly ...
