West Ham have suffered a huge injury setback after scans revealed Jarrod Bowen will be sidelined for an extended period of time due to a fractured foot.

Bowen suffered the injury in Sunday's 5-0 loss to Liverpool, and losing him is a major setback for Julen Lopetegui.

The 28-year-old West Ham captain has been in excellent form this season, leading the team with five Premier League goals and four assists. He recently signed a new, long-term contract.

West Ham have not specified how long Bowen will be out, although he appears to be gone for the majority of the season.

A West Ham statement read: "West Ham United can announce Jarrod Bowen suffered a fractured foot injury in Sunday's Premier League match against Liverpool.

"The injury to his left foot, picked up in the first half at London Stadium, will sideline the Hammers captain heading into the New Year."

West Ham are 13th in the Premier League, eight points above the bottom three, and Lopetegui faced fan outrage following the humiliating defeat to Liverpool.

Lopetegui is already without Michail Antonio, who was released from the hospital more than three weeks ago after breaking his leg in a vehicle accident.

Antonio underwent surgery on a lower limb injury after the crash on December 7.
