The FA Cup fourth-round ties take place this weekend, with clubs hoping to advance to the final at Wembley.

The competition now has only 32 teams, which will be reduced by half during the next three days.

With potential upsets and English football heavyweights battling it out, this round offers a few games to look forward to.

This weekend has five of the greatest FA Cup fourth-round ties.

Leyton Orient vs Manchester City.


Saturday lunchtime features a thrilling meeting between League One promotion contenders Leyton Orient and seven-time champions Manchester City.

The hosts take confidence in their defensive consistency, having surrendered only 25 times in 28 league games. However, one of Europe's most terrible offences will put their determination to the test.

Orient's roster includes Jamie Donley and Josh Keeley, both on loan from Tottenham. Despite being a goalkeeper, the latter has already scored in the league this season.

In the second round against Oldham, the Irish stopper scored an equaliser in the 99th minute. More drama occurred in extra time, when Daniel Agyei missed a penalty before making amends in the 121st minute to secure the victory. No doubt, Orient fans will still be gathering their breath after that match.

Richie Wellens and his players will detect weaknesses in this City side. The reigning Premier League champions do not appear as menacing as they have in the past decade.

That being said, last year's finalists thrashed Salford 8-0 in the last round, with James McAtee scoring a hat trick.

The journey to the capital should provide Pep Guardiola with an opportunity to put some of his new recruits to the test. Brazilian defense prospect Vitor Reis and deadline-day addition Nico Gonzalez have sparked the most interest.

Birmingham City versus Newcastle United.


Birmingham City, the League One leaders, host Newcastle United at St. Andrews on Saturday.

The Magpies enter the fourth round tie with a lot of enthusiasm after reaching the Carabao Cup final in midweek.

Eddie Howe's team will consider themselves knockout specialists after winning all six cup games this season. They won 3-1 at St James' Park after surviving an early scare from League Two side Bromley in the previous round.

Birmingham are led by Chris Davies, who was Ange Postecoglou's assistant at Tottenham previous season.

The Blues are having a phenomenal run of invincibility. They have not been defeated in 18 matches, dating back to November.

To proceed to the fifth round, Birmingham must defeat top-tier opponents, something they have failed to do in their previous ten attempts.

Blackburn Rovers take on Wolves.


Blackburn Rovers and Wolverhampton Wanderers are two of England's most historic football clubs.

John Eustace's Rovers have won the FA Cup six times, although the last time was nearly a century ago. Vitor Pereira's Wolves have won the trophy four times, the last time in 1960.

In fact, the final in 1960 was the last time the two teams played in this competition, with Wolves prevailing 3-0 at Empire Stadium.

Blackburn has met a number of Premier League opponents in recent years, including West Ham, Leicester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.

Last year, they were a few kicks away from making successive quarter-finals before losing to Newcastle in a penalty shootout.

Wolves have only won three matches away from Molineux this season. One of those victories came over Bristol City in the previous round.

Plymouth Argyle versus Liverpool.


Liverpool, the Premier League's leaders and Carabao Cup finalists, travel roughly 600 miles to play Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.

Argyle remain at the bottom of the Championship table, despite defeating West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

Last round, Miron Muslic's team pulled off the biggest upsets. They stunned Brentford at the GTECH Community Stadium with a traditional 'smash and grab' effort (forgive the cliches; it's what the FA Cup is all about).

Prior to that stunning result, the Premier League club had only lost twice at home this season.

However, Morgan Whittaker, who scored the amazing winner that day, has since signed for Middlesbrough.

Liverpool may still win the quadruple this season after reaching the Carabao Cup final on Thursday. If Arne Slot succeeds, he will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best tacticians to ever graced these shores. Jurgen Klopp, who?

Doncaster Rovers vs Crystal Palace.


Doncaster Rovers will aim to stage this year's 'giant-killing' by defeating Premier League regulars Crystal Palace.

Rovers are the competition's lowest-ranked club, currently sitting second in League Two. There are 56 positions between them and the Eagles.

Grant McCann's side have already eliminated Barrow, Kettering Town, and Hull City from football's oldest cup competition. They kept their cool to win a penalty shootout against the latter in the previous round.

Doncaster are hoping to get to the fifth round for the second time in 68 years. The only previous time they made it to the last 16, they were eliminated by Palace in 2019. Revenge will almost certainly be in the air in Yorkshire.

Oliver Glasner's team earned a tie against Doncaster Rovers by narrowly defeating Stockport County at Selhurst Park. They have never won the cup or a major trophy, despite reaching the final in 1990 and 2016. Alan Pardew delivered a memorable celebration in the latter game, but Manchester United's 10-man squad eventually lifted the Cup after extra time.

The fourth round's last match will take place on Monday night at the Eco-Power Stadium.
