West Ham made finding a new striker a major priority in January after Niclas Fullkrug, their £27 million summer signing, suffered a hamstring injury.

The Hammers have also been without Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio, though Bowen is close to returning and hopes to play against Chelsea.

Ferguson has only made two Premier League starts this season, despite being regarded as one of the Premier League's most promising young forwards under Potter and subsequently Roberto De Zerbi.

Potter has used Lucas Paqueta as a replacement striker in recent weeks.

However, West Ham hopes to have Ferguson available to face Brentford at home next Saturday.
