Chelsea have signed Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Becky Spencer on an emergency loan deal.
This afternoon, The Blues issued an official club press release informing WSL Full-Time of the news.
Spencer is expected to spend the remainder of the current campaign at Kingsmeadow.
The 34-year-old Jamaican international goalkeeper returns to the club, where she previously played from 2016 to 2018. Spencer has since gone on to have a highly successful five-and-a-half-year spell with Spurs, during which she has played an important role in the squad.
Chelsea decided to sign Spencer following the recent injury to Dutch goalkeeper Femke Liefting. Liefting suffered a foot injury before the Blues' latest Barclays Women's Super League match against Everton at Kingsmeadow. It is expected that the player will be sidelined for the long term. Chelsea have limited goalkeeping options due to Liefting's injury and Zećira Mušović's recent pregnancy.
Spencer's registration status for Sunday's Barclays Women's Super League match against Brighton & Hove Albion has yet to be confirmed. Hannah Hampton is expected to start the match as the number one goalkeeper.
