This was a crucial encounter for the table, as a win could see the Rossoblu overtake Atalanta into third place, or Napoli close the margin at the top to one point. Both teams were forced to make last-minute changes due to Alex Meret's sickness and Alessandro Buongiorno's muscular issue, while Lewis Ferguson was replaced in the warm-up by Michael Aebischer, with Davide Calabria already injured. Antonio Conte sat out a touchline suspension.
Napoli took the lead thanks to a fantastic solo effort from Anguissa, who flicked on the long ball in the centre circle, brushed off challenges from Emil Holm and Juan Miranda, and then stayed on his feet to move around Lukasz Skorupski before putting into the empty net.
Skorupski damaged his knee during the action and had to be replaced by Federico Ravaglia in the Bologna goal.
Thijs Dallinga missed with a chest and volley on the turn, and Scott McTominay was unable to finish off a David Neres lay-off.
McTominay performed better when meeting the Giovanni Di Lorenzo roll across from the right, but Ravaglia was quick to palm it around the upright.
Ravaglia also had to time his rush off his line well to anticipate Matteo Politano's clear shot, while Aebischer's strike from the edge of the area went just past the top corner.
Bologna rushed forward after the restart, with Politano coming back for a key interception to aid the defence against a Dan Ndoye counter-attack.
On 59 minutes, the hosts had a great chance to equalize when Simone Scuffet gloved Jhon Lucumi's flicked header from a corner kick and Matias Olivera made a frantic clearing off the rebound. Moments later, Orsolini's chest and volley went just over from a difficult angle.
The siege paid off with a magnificent equaliser, as Odgaard crossed from the left and Ndoye met it at the near post with a brilliant back-heel flick from six yards that bounced in off the underside of the crossbar.
They kept driving, with Dallinga and Orsolini barely missing a dangerous Odgaard ball that flashed across the face of goal, Scuffet saving a Miranda free kick, and Billy Gilmour making a key clearance as Santiago Castro was about to tap in the loose ball from four yards.
Bologna had an incredible chance to win in the final minute of normal time when Scuffet clawed Emil Holm's header out from beneath the bar and Castro bundled the rebound over from a couple of yards.
However, Napoli threatened to win in stoppage time with their only serious opportunity of the second half, a Giacomo Raspadori strike deflected to test Ravaglia, who was also alert on the Amir Rrahmani rebound.
