Jurgen Klopp is eyeing the Real Madrid position as frustrations mount behind the scenes at Red Bull, where he is presently the global football director. According to UOL, the former Liverpool manager has told close acquaintances that he is considering leaving Red Bull to join Real Madrid or the Brazilian national team. While neither party has made a formal contact, indications indicate Klopp is dissatisfied with the Austrian group. Klopp joined Red Bull after leaving Liverpool in 2024, following nine years of glory at Anfield. Despite earning between €12-14 million per year in his new role, the German is said to be restless and misses the daily engagement of top-level football management. Meanwhile, pressure is rising on Real Madrid's current manager, Carlo Ancelotti. Croatian midfielder's player career will not be hampered by the ownership shift.
Unexpected decision: Luka Modric has taken his first move into football ownership.Luka Modric, a Real Madrid legend, is set to become a new minority owner of Swansea City.
The Croatian, who turns 40 in September, is acquiring a non-controlling interest in the Welsh club.
Modric's stake purchase will have no impact on his playing career, as he will continue to play for Real Madrid. He is out of contract with Loc Blancos this summer, but he wants to retire with Real and may extend his stay at the Bernabeu for another year if an agreement can be reached.
It comes as a surprise that he has opted to buy a minority share in Swansea, who are currently 12th in the Championship.
The move shows Modric, the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner, is setting the groundwork for his post-playing career.
Swansea's eight-year ownership by Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan ended in November when they sold their controlling position to shareholders Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, and Nigel Morris, as well as businessman Jason Cohen.
Modric played the full 90 minutes in both of his Tottenham matches against Swansea, a 1-1 draw in December 2011 and a 3-1 victory in April 2012.
Modric has 186 caps for Croatia since his senior international debut in 2006, and if Croatia qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, he hopes to play there in his 40s.
